Today we have our wonderful friends the Swiss Cats!
I would love to know why you started blogging?
ZORRO and PIXIE : Angel Loupi started blogging in 2012 because he wanted to share his thoughts with the world, and was already aware that the Internet belongs to cats. Now, our goal is to entertain and educate cat lovers ; we cover topics like behavior, safety, and health, and we share anecdotes of our everyday life too.
How many little ones do you have in your household right now, and what are their names?
ZORRO and PIXIE : We are two cats : Zorro (black) and Pixie (calico)
Do all of your little ones get along?
ZORRO and PIXIE : Yes, very well ! We play together, we bath each other, but we don’t sleep together.
How did you introduce your little ones?
PIXIE : I arrived home a Saturday afternoon. Claire and Momo put me in a separate room with my food and my litterbox. I was 2 1/2 months old. I was not used to be alone, and I cried. My humans played with me and cuddled me until I fell asleep. In the evening, I woke up again, and cried again. As Claire and Momo entered the room, Zorro sneaked in. He was curious, and, I thought that my new big bro was pawsome ! I wanted to go near him at once, but he hissed a little if I came closer than 50 cm (20 in). I spent the night in the bed with the humans, and the next morning, I was allowed to visit the house under supervision. A major event happened : I was a baby, you know, and I was so in a hurry to do it that I peed in Zorro’s litter box (he didn’t do all his business outdoor at that time) instead of mine ! Claire and Momo were speechless, waiting for what Zorro would do. Well, he looked at me, sniffed everything and everywhere (yes, here too !), and since then he has been the best mommy cat a kitten could ever have dreamed of. He taught me almost everything I know today.
Having a multi-pet household can be stressful, what is the best advice you can give to someone thinking of adopting multiple furballs?
ZORRO : A kitten is easier to introduce to adult cats than another adult cat. We’ve been lucky : I wanted a playmate, I was young, and Pixie was a kitten. When I arrived, I was 6 months old, and even if Claire and Momo took time to keep me separate, introduced Angel Loupi and me to the scent of each other, etc, etc, Angel Loupi didn’t accept me. It took him two years, a lot of catification, and some calming drugs (Zylkène) to distress and accept the fact that I lived in the same house, but we’ve never been buddies. Our advice to someone thinking of adopting another furball is to take time, to go step by step to introduce him to the family, and be aware that sometimes, it takes much more time than expected.
CLAIRE : Finding a good pet sitter we can trust if we want to leave a few days.
What is your favourite thing about pet parents?
CLAIRE : My cats give me as much love as I give them. I love their independence, I love the fact that there is still a wild animal, a raw cat as Jackson Galaxy says, in every cat, and I love the relationship I have with them : they don’t cheat. It’s easier for me than with humans !
There are a number of folks who don’t like pets, how would you convince them that having pets is actually a huge positive in households?
ZORRO and PIXIE : Before convincing them, it could be interesting to understand why they don’t like pets, and debunk some of their misconceptions.
What are your little one’s favourite toys?
ZORRO and PIXIE : Neko Fly ! Do alive birdies or mousies count ?
When not with you, where can we find your little ones?
ZORRO : You can find me in the garden, hunting voles and birds, or patrolling, or in the small room upstairs, sleeping in the little basket of my cat tree.
PIXIE : You can find me in the bedroom, under the bedspread between the two pillows, or in the living room, sleeping in the basket at the top of my cat tree.
Would you adopt another pet, and if so what kind?
CLAIRE : I wouldn’t adopt another pet now, but I will always live with cats !
I noticed that in different places in the world petcare can be different (such as keeping fully indoor cats vs. outdoor cats), have you noticed that and what are some of the differences you noticed?
ZORRO and PIXIE : We’re blogging in four languages, and thus we’re visiting many blogs in the USA, in Europe, and in Oceania. The biggest differences we noticed is the indoor vs outdoor cats question, the fact that dressing your cat up or going for a walk with your cat in a stroller seems to be much more usual in the US, and of course the question of declawing a cat : to us, it’s just an indescribable barbaric practice. It’s illegal here. It took us time to accept that uninformed people could do it to their cat, but we cannot and will never accept that vets, who should be caregivers, amputate cats instead of sharing information about cat behavior and cat needs with the owners.
What’s one piece of advice you wish you were given before you started to adopt little ones?
CLAIRE : Be ready to cry : one day, your pet will leave you, but his love is worth the pain.
What can our readers expect to see on your blog?
ZORRO and PIXIE : You’ll see anecdotes of our everyday life, and advice and information about living with cats (behavior, safety and heath). Claire does her best to take beautiful photos, and we hope you’ll enjoy it also.
